Antique brass Old Salt Sailor. Cast in bronze mold, Molten zinc is hand poured into the mold. The base metal is what gives the piece its weight. After casting, the gates must be broken off and the seam lines hand sanded and smoothed in preparation for buffing.

The most critical step is the buffing process. The surface of the piece must be perfectly smooth to keep flaws and blemishes from appearing after the plating process.

The plating process consists of a series of cleansing baths, a copper bath, nickel plating, brass plating, and the application of antique stain. After drying, the piece is hand polished on a leather wheel, then lacquered and baked for an everlasting finish.
